After a long 4 months of being away from my family, I finally spent the holidays back home. When I left to go back on tour with Joe, I left Atlanta. I left the city skyline, my favorite restaurants and coffee shops, my favorite trendy shops, and my closest friends. So when I found out my parents were leaving the city and moving to the countryside, I realized that when I came back, it wasn’t going to be coming home to the familiarity that I knew.

My family basically jumped the ATL ship and moved an hour outside of the city, bought a farm, some horses (including a mini pony, like, what?), a few goats… the whole nine. I’ll admit, I was apprehensive about being that far out from my “home.”
On the way back from the airport to the house, the whole way back I’m thinking about how I’m going to drive an hour everyday to go shopping, or to eat at Cafe Intermezzo (the best, y’all), how there’s absolutely nothing note-worthy around me.

I was focusing on all of the wrong things. I had to snap myself out of it, I realized none of that matters… I spent the whole week completely disconnected. I felt like I was on break from the world, and I loved every second of it. I got to spend my Christmas surrounded by a house-full of everyone I love, which I haven’t had in over a year since being gone. I practically went M.I.A. on social media (nearly impossible) and focused on what was really important. When I’m away, I miss my family so much, so when I had to chance to truly enjoy every minute of their company, I embraced it all.

I feel like sometimes we get too wrapped up in what’s around us, what qualifies as our comfort zone, and what we call home. Home isn’t your city, it isn’t your town, it isn’t your favorite mall or the welcome mat below your doorstep… It’s being surrounded by the people you love, no matter where you are in the world.

Joe and I took some photos around the farm with the animals. It’s not your typical outfit post, but it’s close to my heart. I hope you guys enjoy the change in scenery.
